During the spring and summer (May to August), clouds of exquisite butterflies appear in various types of environments throughout the park. In particular, Parantica sita niphonica Moore appears in enormous fluttering swarms on Mt. Tatun. Apart from the Danaidae, such swallowtails as Papilio memnon heronus, Papilio paris nakaharai, Papilio bianor takasago, and Papilio protenor amanra are very common. Such insects as the cicadas of summer and katydids of fall enliven the ecology of YMSNP. |
